May 23, 2010: The Vancouver Cantata Singers won the Contemporary Music category
of this year's 2010 National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs
sponsored by the Association of Canadian Choral Communities (ACCC).


2009 - 2010 Season Summary

August 4, 2009: At MusicFest Vancouver, VCS presented Mendelssohn's magnificent Te Deum, his early masterpiece for double choir and continuo. Also on the program were choral works from late in Mendelssohn's life, Psalm 43 - Richte mich, Gott,  Psalm 91- Denn er hat seinen Engeln befohlen, and Heilig, heilig, heilig (from Deutschen Liturgie).

October 17, 2009: Across the Pond - A celebration of five centuries of music from the British Isles Ryerson United Church, Vancouver

November 14, 2009: Spinal Chord 2009, a joint fundraiser with VCS and ICORD at the Blusson Research Centre.

December 13 and 18, 2009: A Christmas Reprise  -  our annual blockbuster Christmas Concert!
at the Bell Centre in Surrey and at Holy Rosary Cathedral

Olympic Break: VCS was on hiatus for the February Vancouver Winter Olympics.

April 25, 2010: studio recording of Peter Hannan's Happiness Index for an upcoming CD release.

May 1, 2010: BALTIC SHORES - music from unique choral traditions from the shores of the Baltic Sea

May 5, 2010: VCS performed the choral vocals with Video Games Live at the Canadian Video Games Awards Ceremony in Vancouver. See YouTube video of Assassin's Creed performance

May 7, 2010: a full Video Games Live performance at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. See the YouTube video of the performance of One-Winged Angel

May 26, 27, 28 and 30, 2010: Tenors and Basses from VCS played the monks chorus in Britten's Curlew River, presented by City Opera Vancouver.


August 4, 2009: Mendelssohn's Te Deum

On August 4. the Vancouver Cantata Singers 2009/2010 Season got an early start with an all-Mendelssohn concert as part of MusicFest Vancouver

In celebration of the 200th anniversary of the great composer's birth, this concert features Mendelssohn's magnificent Te Deum, his early masterpiece for double choir and continuo. Also on the program were choral works from late in Mendelssohn's life, Psalm 43 - Richte mich, Gott,  Psalm 91- Denn er hat seinen Engeln befohlen, and Heilig, heilig, heilig (from Deutschen Liturgie).

This concert was recorded by CBC Radio Two for a September 20 broadcast on Choral Concert.

October 17, 2009: Across the Pond

A celebration of five centuries of music from the British Isles
Saturday, October 17 at Ryerson United Church, Vancouver

From late Tudor masterpieces to living composers - an evening celebrating the best of the British Isles. Divine and penetrating liturgical compositions were interspersed with folk song arrangements to create a tapestry of exceptional choral music. Gibbons,  Danny Boy, Delius and many more.
