The Eighties - Page One

The February, 1980, concert was the first of only a few Chrysalis performances. At the time of the second performance in December, 1980, though conducted by Fankhauser, Chrysalis was no longer connected with the Cantata Singers.

Chrysalis won the First Prize trophy in the Contemporary Choral Music Category and the Second Prize Certificate in the Adult Mixed Choir Category of the 1980 National Radio Competition for Amateur Choirs sponsored by the CBC.

Members of Chrysalis re-formed in 1983 as the aptly-named Phoenix, conducted by Cortland Hultburg, and have had an illustrious history as a leading Canadian chamber choir.
